 “All eyes on Putin” was aired on September 27th, 2015.

Putin’s popularity rating in Russia is consistently high.  Questions cover such topics as international relations, gay rights and KGB among others.

The Real Lessons from the Meeting on the Elbe – Harvard – Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany and on the eve of the anniversary of the meeting of Soviet and American troops on the Elbe, the Carnegie Moscow Center organized a conference held April 23, 2015 in Moscow to discuss the experience of Russian-American alliance during the Second World War, as well as the experience of cooperation and rivalry after the end of the Cold War. The Elbe meeting took place on April 25, 1945. Brigadier General (ret.) Kevin Ryan, director of the Belfer Center’s Defense and Intelligence Projects and founder of The Elbe Group, spoke at the conference in Russian about the significance of the Elbe anniversary to U.S.-Russian relations today. His Russian remarks and English translation are available.

Word of the Day: скамейка, тень

  1. скамейка, noun, feminine gender, singular, bench

скамейки*, plural

2.  тень*, noun, feminine gender, singular, shadow  

тени, plural

* Note 1. Nouns ending with -K or -KA form plural by adding -И or  replacing the vowel with -И. Скамейка – скамейки.

*Note 2 . Nouns with -Ь at the end are irregular and can belong to masculine or feminine gender. Their gender should be memorized.

Это скамейка, а это тень от скамейки.

 Remember: тень is used with Genitive case if you want to say what casts a shadow:  тень от скамейки, тень от дерева, тень от стола

Радуга, noun, feminine gender, singular, rainbow

Радуги*, plural

* Remember that if a nouns has –K, -Г at the end, it will form plural by adding/replacing the ending like in радуга with .

Клубника, noun, feminine gender, singular, strawberry

Это клубника. В этом году клубника очень сладкая, а в прошлом году клубника была кислая. ( This year strawberry is sweet, but last year strawberry was sour.)

Я люблю клубнику. ( The verb люблю  activates Accusative case)
